1. The current state: no payments, nothing to refund
AfricaCrowdFund is launching in stages. In the current stage, pledges are non-binding expressions of backing interest:
- No money is charged, collected, held or transferred when you register a pledge.
- ACF does not currently process card, mobile-money or bank payments, and does not hold backer funds or operate an escrow or wallet.
- Because no payment takes place, there is nothing to refund. Registering a pledge never creates a charge.
2. Changing your mind today: withdraw your pledge
Because a pledge is currently an intention rather than a payment, you can reverse it yourself at any time, at no cost:
- Open the campaign and use the pledge controls to withdraw, or manage your pledges from your dashboard.
- Withdrawing removes your pledge from the campaign's active pledge count and stops update notifications linked to that pledge.
- No cancellation fee applies, and no refund is needed because no money moved.
3. When paid backing opens
Paid campaigns are planned for a future phase through a licensed external payment provider, with payment success confirmed by trusted server-side verification. Before any paid campaign opens, we will publish clear paid-pledge terms at the point of payment. The principles we intend to apply:
- Transparency first — you will see exactly when money moves, what fees apply, and the refund position before you confirm a payment.
- Reward delivery is the founder's responsibility — founders are accountable for delivering promised rewards, and ACF's moderation and fulfilment tracking exists to hold them to it.
- Fair handling of failed campaigns — the treatment of funds if a campaign is cancelled or fails will be stated plainly before payments are enabled, and money will never move silently under unclear terms.
- Platform fees — a planned 6% total fee (4% commission plus 2% service fee) applies only to successfully collected paid pledges; how fees are treated in a refund will be disclosed in the paid-pledge terms.
Nothing on this page creates a payment, escrow or refund mechanism that does not yet exist. Until paid backing is announced, assume every pledge on ACF is non-binding.
4. Fraud and unauthorised activity
ACF currently collects no payment credentials, so no card or account can be charged through the platform. If you ever believe an account or campaign is being used deceptively, report it from the campaign page or contact us — we review every report and can hide, suspend or remove campaigns where safety requires it.
