1. About these terms
These Terms & Conditions govern your use of AfricaCrowdFund (AfricaCrowdFund.com), operated by the AfricaCrowdFund team (“ACF”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account, browsing campaigns, registering a pledge or submitting a campaign, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.
Questions about these terms can be sent to hello@africacrowdfund.com.
2. What AfricaCrowdFund is — and is not
AfricaCrowdFund is a rewards-based crowdfunding marketplace. Founders present campaigns for their businesses and offer rewards to people who back them; backers support campaigns they believe in. ACF provides the venue, discovery, review and moderation tooling.
- ACF is not a bank, broker-dealer, investment adviser, collective investment scheme or financial institution.
- Campaigns on ACF are reward-based. ACF does not offer shares, equity, debt, interest-bearing products, securities or any product that promises a financial or investment return.
- A pledge is support for a campaign in exchange for a promised reward or simply to help a founder. It is not an investment, a deposit, or a purchase of securities.
- ACF does not guarantee that any campaign will reach its goal, that any business will succeed, or that any reward will be delivered. Campaign outcomes are the responsibility of the founder.
3. Current status of the platform (MVP)
ACF is launching in stages. At present:
- Pledges on ACF are non-binding expressions of backing interest. No money is charged, collected, held or transferred by ACF, and registering a pledge creates no payment obligation on either side.
- Some campaigns visible on the platform may be clearly labelled demonstration fixtures used to preview the experience.
- Paid backing is planned for a future phase through a licensed external payment provider. When it opens, the payment flow, fees, refund handling and any additional terms will be presented clearly at the point of payment before any money moves.
- A platform fee configuration of 6% in total (a 4% commission plus a 2% service fee on successfully collected paid pledges) is planned and will be disclosed to founders and backers before paid campaigns open. No fees are charged while payments are disabled.
4. Accounts
- You must provide accurate information when registering and keep it up to date.
- You must be at least 18 years old, or otherwise have legal capacity to contract under the law that applies to you, to create an account, submit a campaign or register a pledge.
- You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure and for activity under your account. Tell us promptly at our support address if you suspect unauthorised access.
- One person or business may not operate multiple accounts to mislead, manipulate campaign signals or evade enforcement.
5. Founders and campaigns
- Founders must complete business verification before a campaign can be reviewed for publication. Verification is a manual review of the information and documents supplied — such as identity and business registration — and reduces risk, but it is not an endorsement, certification or guarantee by ACF.
- Campaign content must be truthful, accurate and not misleading, and must comply with our Platform Guidelines.
- Campaigns go through a moderated lifecycle (draft, review, publication, closure and fulfilment). ACF may request changes, reject, pause, suspend, cancel or remove campaigns, and may temporarily hide a campaign from public view where safety or fraud concerns require it.
- Founders are responsible for delivering promised rewards, communicating honestly with backers through campaign updates, and meeting their legal, tax and regulatory obligations.
- Campaign funding goals are fundraising targets — not promises of business performance or investment return.
6. Backers
- Read each campaign carefully and do your own due diligence before backing. Our Risk Disclosure explains the main risks.
- While payments are disabled, pledges are non-binding intentions and you may withdraw a pledge at any time.
- When paid backing opens, the binding terms of a paid pledge — including when money moves and how refunds work — will be shown before you confirm payment.
- Rewards, delivery estimates and campaign outcomes are promises made by founders, not by ACF.
7. Acceptable use
You must follow our Platform Guidelines. In summary: no fraud, scams or misrepresentation; no impersonation; no unlawful, harmful or abusive content; no spam or manipulation of campaign signals; and no attempt to use ACF for equity, debt or investment-return offerings, which are not permitted on this platform.
8. Intellectual property
Founders keep ownership of their campaign content. By publishing a campaign, a founder grants ACF a non-exclusive licence to host, display and promote that content on and about the platform for as long as the campaign is listed and in reasonable archival and promotional contexts afterwards.
The AfricaCrowdFund name, logo, design and platform software belong to ACF. You may not copy, scrape at scale, or reuse them without permission. Respect the intellectual property of others; content reported as infringing may be removed.
9. Third-party links and services
Campaigns and pages may link to third-party websites and services, including our separate ecosystem partner Opportunities Hub Africa (OHA), which operates independently with its own accounts, data and terms. ACF does not control and is not responsible for third-party sites, content or services.
10. Moderation, suspension and removal
Anyone can report a campaign from its campaign page. ACF reviews reports and may, at its discretion and in line with our moderation process, request changes, unpublish, suspend, cancel or permanently remove content or accounts, including immediately hiding content from public view in severe safety or fraud cases. Significant administrative actions are recorded in an internal audit trail. Where practical we will explain our decision, but we are not obliged to restore content we judge to breach these terms.
11. Availability and changes to the service
We work to keep AfricaCrowdFund available and reliable, but the platform is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. Features may change, and access may be interrupted for maintenance, security or reasons beyond our control. We may update these terms from time to time; material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date, and continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.
12. Disclaimers
- ACF does not guarantee that campaigns will fund, that businesses will succeed, or that rewards will be delivered on time or at all.
- Verification, review and moderation are risk-reduction measures only. They are not an endorsement of any founder, business or campaign and not a guarantee of honesty, quality or performance.
- Nothing on ACF is financial, investment, legal or tax advice.
- To the extent permitted by applicable law, ACF excludes warranties, express or implied, regarding the platform and third-party content on it.
13. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, AfricaCrowdFund and its team will not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data or lost goodwill, arising from your use of the platform; for the acts, omissions, campaigns or rewards of founders; or for the conduct of other users. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
14. Governing law and disputes
AfricaCrowdFund is preparing its initial launch with founders in Zambia. The formal governing law and dispute-resolution forum for these terms will be confirmed and stated on this page before paid campaigns open. In the meantime, if you have a concern, contact us first at hello@africacrowdfund.com and we will try to resolve it with you directly.
